Welcome to the Gear for Greatness, Inc. newsletter! We are thrilled to share with you the latest developments in our mission to make a positive impact in our community. Firstly, we would like to express our gratitude to all of our donors and volunteers who have continued to support us. Your generosity and dedication have allowed us to keep our non-profit running smoothly and effectively. In terms of our recent activities, we have successfully launched the initiative to provide athletic gear and resources to athletes in our area. Through the ‘Aspirant’program, this program aims to improve access to quality gear and funds to promote a love for sports among youth. | We are also excited to announce that we will be hosting our first year anniversary charity event September 15, 2024 at Chicken N Pickle. This event is a fun and interactive way to support our cause while also enjoying great food, drinks, and entertainment. We hope to see you there! Finally, we want to remind everyone that our non-profit relies on the kindness and support of our community. If you are able to donate your time or resources, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most. MEET OUR FOUNDER
Franceska Colocado is an accomplished student leader, athlete and community volunteer. In 2023, she had the opportunity to attend a leadership immersion at Yale University. She was inspired by a key note speaker that said, “Take action”. She took those words to heart and did just that. At the age of 16 she founded the 501(c) (3) non-profit organization Gear for Greatness, Inc. Through her decorated volleyball career, Franceska witnessed the struggles that athletes went through when it came to having the proper gear or funds to reach their full potential. It reminded her of her father, Kevin Colocado. It is Franceska’s mission to aspire to inspire people to help athletes in need.

what it means to be apart of the program?
Becoming an aspirant creates a lifetime opportunity for you to make an impact on the athlete community. By being a part of our program you will get to help fulfill your athletic dreams and mission.
The Gear For Greatness Inc. Aspirant Program allows athletes that need resources to play at their full potential.
Sports can positively impact society in many ways, including:
• Community Sports can bring people together, creating a sense of community and unity. They can also help people of different backgrounds connect and break down barriers. For example, team sports can teach collaboration and teamwork skills that can be applied to real life.
• Education Sports can help students develop important life skills like time management, leadership, and teamwork. They can also help young people boost their self-esteem and form strong societal bonds.
• Mental and physical health Sports can be a driver for public health, improving the physical and mental well-being of the population. They can also encourage healthy socialization, which can lead to more outgoing personalities and opportunities for healthy interactions with others.
• Culture Sports can reflect and influence a society's culture, values, and identity, and can even challenge and change them. For example, sports movies can become cultural phenomena, with some generating millions of dollars at the box office.
Gear for Greatness, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission to help athletes/teams reach their full potential by providing needed gear or funding. Founded by a 16-year-old decorated volleyball athlete in 2023, Franceska Colocado saw the plight around her. Players struggling to come up with funds to travel, to purchase shoes, and to obtain proper training. This reminded her of her father Kevin Colocado who went through hard times as an athlete in the Philippines. Kevin worked hard to provide Franceska with all the best tools needed to become an exceptional athlete. In return, she made it her life’s mission to be a catalyst for change. To be that organization to bridge the gap for struggling athletes to become GREAT!

3X CCISD Campus Volunteer of the Year Awardee & Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers Honorary Lifetime Member Awardee. A dedicated military daughter and wife who has served over 10+ years as a volunteer for CCISD, for the church and community. Charito is currently working on acquiring her MBA at the University of Houston-Clear Lake

Currently serving in the US Airforce with 22 years under his belt; Stevie is an avid diver and traveler. Traveling the world and bringing his experiences to the table is a great asset to our organization. He played basketball in his youth and to this day loves the sport. He is dedicated to helping the athletic community.
KEVIN COLOCADO | CFO & Director of the Planning Commitee
Houston Sailor of the Year Awardee and 3x Sailor of the Quarter Awardee, Kevin Colocado has a total of 20 years of active and reserve military service in the US Navy. A former volleyball coach and basketball athlete Mr. Colocado is dedicated to volunteering in the community and schools.
BERNARD BELTRAN | Secretary
Regional Sales Director for Randstad, Bernard brings a wealth of experience in sales management and HR professional services. Excelled in volleyball in his youth, he is currently dedicated to supporting his rising volleyball star daughters 8 and 10. Bernard is dedicated to charitable initiatives and community service.
